Shillington Planning for Real Event

The Planning for Real event held on Saturday the 12th of April was a great success.

About 200 people attended representing some 100 families from the village - 12 to 13% of the population - a very good turnout.

All age groups were represented except, disappointingly, the 19 to 24 age group.  However, we hope to include them later on.  Flags were placed on a large map of the village denoting the topics of concern.

These were then listed so that some basic idea on the direction of most people’s worries could be assessed.

Many different and often conflicting views were expressed.  The main concerns revolved around traffic issues in the village and, of course, the proposals for new houses loomed large.

People gave their opinions about the bus service, facilities for younger age groups, litter, tree preservation, environmental issues, HGVs and many other topics.  Some lively discussions were held during the day!  In addition, suggestion boxes were placed around the village hall and were filled with people's ideas and comments.

What comes next?
Having established the main issues the next step will be to convert these issues into a more formal questionnaire.  This will allow us to get everyone’s views on the preferred ways of tackling the problems and issues that were identified in the Planning for Real event.

The questionnaire will be distributed to everybody in the village and the opportunity will be given for every member of the household to indicate their preferences.  This information will then be used to express the voice of the village to the various authorities and organisations responsible for making things happen.

Watch this space for further developments!!
