Traffic and parking
|
|
- Speeding Traffic.
- Parking - many properties have no off street parking.
- Parking anywhere.
- Too much through traffic especially heavy vehicles and car boot sale traffic.
- Better parking in Bury Road.
- Proper bicycle paths - let young people be free to move and visit friends/get exercise.
- Awareness of the necessity for local retail providers to avoid unnecessary journeys and to assist the aged and non-car users.
- Speeding Traffic.
- Street parking - people should use their garages where possible.
- Parking within 15m of a corner should be stopped - especially at the junction of Church Street and High Road.
- Car boot traffic is a nightmare - it ruins the village on a Sunday and is dangerous for families out walking, cycling and for horse riders.
- Problems over parking - could be reduced in some cases by use of garages or walking a short distance.
- Stop the Stondon Car Boot Sale - it generates too much traffic.
- Reduce the speed of traffic - install traffic calming measures in High Road, Marquis Hill, Hanscombe End.
- Too much heavy traffic on village roads.
- Bus Service is poor.
- With regard to pollution, the idea that the lower School had some time ago in respect of a 'Walking Bus' was brilliant, but it needs to be followed up. I am sure the amount of traffic morning and afternoon would be cut dramatically.
- Fast traffic - increasing traffic.
- Inconsiderate drivers rushing through the village.
- Speed cameras required at both ends of the Village. The current electronic signs don't work !
- Poor bus service.
- Speeding traffic.
- Car boot traffic.

Sport and leisure
|
|
- More activities for children in the village.
- Improve access to walking routes, i.e. less stiles more kissing gates.
- Lack of facilities for youth. Maybe work more collectively together for the youth who are our future.
Provision of facilities to provide for the many youngsters who are creating unnecessary grief for the law abiding majority.
- Cycleway to Hitchin via Pirton and Hamridge Way.
- Upkeep of paths.
- More facilities for young people (vandal proof of course !)
- Need a pavement around the village.
- Footpath all round village.
- More facilities for the youth of the village.

- Provide some facility for youth to give them an interest and hopefully reduce the 'problems' created by boredom.
- Opportunities to involve younger people in communal events, e.g. theatre, drama, music groups/clubs.
Footpath around village.
- Better repairs to existing paths, walkways (e.g. potholes, etc.)
- Wish incomers would get more involved with local clubs and activities.
- Children need a Youth Club. IWith regard to pollution, the idea that the lower School had some time ago in respect of a 'Walking Bus' was brilliant, but it needs to be followed up.

Village facilities |
|
- Village Hall needs improvements.
- We must keep the Post Office or non-car owners will be desperate.
- Refurbish/maintain parish roadside benches.
- Medical facilities - Doctors!
- Village Hall needs modernisation.
- New Village Hall.
- I would like to see a Playing Field Pavilion newly built to encompass all aspects of village life of any sport or activity for young or old. I think the days of the old football club should be numbered.
- Upgrade village hall to hold regular meetings for ongoing projects.
- Upgrade Doctors' Surgery in Stondon - larger building and car park.
- Community Centre (Healthcare ?)
- Scruffy Village Hall.

|
Local business |
|
- Develop local business facilities.
|
|
|
Housing development |
|
- There is a demand for some new 'starter' homes in the village.
- Housing for first time buyers is needed.
- We are concerned that the Old Chapel in the High Street remains derelict. It is a key building in the village and it is very important that it is renovated to provide flats or apartments. We know the Government is urging Parish Councils to be more flexible about parking allowance - would the Parish Council of Shillington consider making available part of the Village Green to provide attractive landscaped parking for the development ? This is surely the way forward in saving
this beautiful Victorian building.
- Save low cost housing for young families.
- Houses left to deteriorate.
- Methodist Church being neglected.
- High Street Methodist Church becoming a village eyesore.
- Dislike old houses being replaced with larger ones.
- Large extensions to existing houses.
- Any development that obscures the view towards All Saints.
- Infill housing out of scale with surrounding properties.
- Too many large 'executive' homes.
- Small affordable homes needed.
- No development.
- Dilapidation of disused properties.
- I would like to see something done with the Methodist Church grounds and maybe a new Village Hall and get the street brought up to cleanliness and repaired.

Policing, vandalism and youth issues
|
|
- Teenagers are in dire need of some organised activities.
- More monies to be spent on policing the village on a daily basis rather than occasionally.
- A greater emphasis on local policing for our immediate community of Shillington Community Centre.
- Security - policing costs Shillington £120,000 per year. Vandalism is rising. Suggest our own jailhouse.
